Dear Friends:
Congratulations on a magnificent Fall Concert! Despite the cold and rainy weather, you brought a sense of energy, focus and fun to the evening. The blend was amazing, and the dynamic contrasts and phrasing could not have been better. From the Schicksalslied to the Gypsy Songs and all the way to a stirring rendition of the finale of the Choral Fantasy, you demonstrated a sophisticated style of singing which our audience appreciated. I am still hearing from folks who loved the performance and have glowing comments to make about Choral Society.
As I have spent time reflecting on the start of our season, I am overwhelmed by how much we have accomplished together. At our first rehearsal during the August retreat, we sang through most of the music using only neutral syllables! The amount of German text we had to learn was daunting to some. That being said, I have experienced only positive attitudes and determination from our group. The singers in Choral Society are striving for excellence, and I have been grateful to be part of the process.
Our performance with the Philharmonic was a rousing start to the season, and now we have ended our time together in the fall with a beautiful and musical performance of works by Brahms and Beethoven. Please remember that we have been invited to participate in the Sing-Along Messiah at Washington Street United Methodist Church on December 19 at 7:00. The dress rehearsal for that performance will be on the evening of the 18th. Participation is optional, but I know many of our singers take part in this event. I will also be available for auditions in early January for those singers who may wish to join us for the spring. Please have any interested singers you may know contact me at mrdrbeth@gmail.com. Also, although I cannot give you definite dates at this time, I imagine we will resume rehearsals in mid-January.
Please know how honored I am to be working with all of you. Not only are you great musicians, you are also a fun group of folks! It has been a pleasure to get to know each and every one of you. I hope that your holidays are restful and peaceful and full of joy.
See you in 2017!
